🧠 Question:
Will teams that use AI outperform teams that only use their brains? Does AI actually help teams solve problems better? Is it more of a solution — or more of a problem? Let's find out.

Will teams that use AI outperform teams that only use their brains? Does AI actually help teams solve problems better? Is it more of a solution — or more of a problem? Let's find out.
We believe that teams with lower overall AI use will outperform teams with higher AI use, and that participants will report more friction than advantage from bringing AI into their teamwork.
Week 1 establishes a human-only baseline; age-based teams (8-10, 11-14, 15-17, 18+) figure out three complex problems with no instructions... and no AI. In Week 2, the same players face recorded collaborative challenges with AI available for knowledge, advice, or not at all. We then compare AI-use patterns with team performance and participant reports of teamwork.
Team up with other curious humans across the planet in the first-ever attempt to launch a new kind of experiment: one that tests how far human collaboration can go.

Challenging
Participants need an open mind and a good internet connection. The experiment will take it from there.
Ambitious
Life is not a one-player game. Every team you join will be different, and collaboration skills matter.
Personalized
They won't give answers. But they will focus discussion to help teams optimize their process.
Convenient
Will parents use AI more than their kids? Have your family find out. The schedule is flexible, and the daily commitment is low.
The big idea
Where to play, how to win, and the best way to create a competitive advantage.
What to do when you face an intractable challenge that seems impossible to solve.
How to test assumptions and validate ideas when you don’t have all the information.
Take action when you only have seconds to decide, plan, and enact your tactics.
Unleash your own voice—and draw out the best in others so high-quality ideas get heard.
Evaluate your biggest risks, cap your downsides, and angle for the greatest reward.

Getting started with Synthesis is fast and easy.
The Global Problem-Solving Experiment is a two-week online camp where kids, teens, and adults from around the world take on the toughest challenges we’ve ever designed.
This isn’t a class. It’s an experiment.
You’ll face games with no instructions. Systems with no obvious rules. And teammates you’ve never met. Together, you'll work to solve complex problems that mirror the real world: messy, unpredictable, and full of possibility.
Whether you're new to Synthesis or a returning player, you’ll be part of a global effort to answer big questions: Who are the best collaborators? What makes a great team? And how do different people approach challenge and uncertainty?
You don’t need to be a top student or expert gamer — or even a kid! You just need to be curious, ready to think differently, and willing to try.
This is your chance to explore, collaborate, and test your skills on a global stage.
Anyone with curiosity and a spirit of adventure.
This experiment is open to participants in four age divisions: 8–10, 11–14, 15–17, and 18+.
Whether you're a young strategist, a curious teen, or an adult ready for a challenge, you’re invited to step into the arena. No prior experience required — just a willingness to think deeply, work with others, and explore the unknown.
Participants should be:
We welcome introverts and extroverts, future artists and engineers, quick thinkers and deep thinkers. Everyone brings something valuable to the team.
Each week includes three unique sessions:
Each session lasts about one hour.
We recommend that students attend at least one session from each two-day block to get the full camp experience. Students are welcome to repeat any session for extra practice — just don’t forget to build in breaks! Our sessions are mentally stimulating, and downtime helps participants recharge and reflect.
There’s no minimum time commitment or required attendance. If you need to miss a session, no problem — the curriculum is flexible, and you can jump back in anytime.
We offer a wide range of session times to serve families around the world, so you’ll see options that span many hours. Just pick the time(s) that work best for your family’s routine.
Each camp session lasts one hour and runs at the same times Monday–Saturday. Pick whichever sessions fit your day from the schedule above.
When you register to attend a session, you’ll see session times in your local time, based on your device settings.
Some session times may look unusual (like midnight) because they’re meant for families in different parts of the world. You can safely ignore those and choose the session that works best for your family.
Students are matched based on a range of factors, including age and experience level. Our goal is to create teams that are balanced, age-appropriate, and well-positioned to collaborate effectively.
All players are grouped within their registered age division (8–10, 11–14, 15–17, or 18+). Younger children will never be grouped with older teens or adults.
Within those divisions, we mix players strategically to reflect real-world conditions:
Students need either a broadband wired connection or a wireless connection that’s equivalent to 4G/LTE or better. The minimum download speed is 50Mbps, but 100Mbps is recommended.
Windows 10 or above; Mac Big Sur 11 or above; or Chrome OS. Students should also use the Chrome browser, not Safari, Firefox, Brave, etc.
Headphones with a microphone are strongly recommended.
iPad case or stand with landscape support.

We look forward to seeing you at camp!

“In traditional school, I feel like I'm in a box. It's the opposite with Synthesis. There's always something new, and the best strategy is always different.”
